Rangers youngster Jason Cummings is prepared to spoil Celtic’s parade.
In the wake of his hat-trick helping to send Rangers into the Scottish Cup semi-finals at the weekend, forward Jason Cummings seems to be more than ready to assist his club in pushing rivals Celtic all the way in both the cup and the league.
The 22-year-old burst on to the Scottish scene courtesy of his phenomenal form for Hibernian across his four years with the club but, following an uneasy start to life with Nottingham Forest, he is now back at the highest level in his homeland with Rangers.
As you can tell by the comments he gave to the Daily Record, Cummings is eager to carry the club’s momentum forward as they prepare to tackle Celtic in the cup semi-finals as well as in the Premiership.
“We’re going to go and try to beat them, that’s what we’ll set out to do and push them as far as we can,” he said. “Of course, we don’t want to see Celtic winning trebles and winning all the time. “We’re trying to put a bit more pressure on them and I feel like we are.
“We’re going to have to beat them (Celtic) to win the cup, so why not just make it the semi-final. The boys are confident just now and we can’t wait to play that.”
It is so important at any stage of a player’s development to have the mentality of ‘we’re going to have to beat the best to be the best’, as opposed to already thinking you are the top dogs. The fact that Cummings understands that at such an early stage bodes well for his development and, moving forward, it will be interesting to see how a potential return to England is handled.
Right now his situation draws comparisons to Leigh Griffiths over at Celtic, who was also sent out on loan to Scotland despite being a member of the squad at Wolves for a few years. He even played for Hibs, too, and if Cummings can keep his focus and keep riding Rangers’ momentum, he could prove to be the clubs’ equivalent to Griffiths moving forward.
