Following his latest scandal, Rangers midfielder Joey Barton should look into the possibility of retirement.

Over the years Joey Barton has done it all both on and off the pitch, having put in solid performances for the likes of Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers whilst also getting into trouble in his personal life.

Regardless, his future in the sport looks bleak at best following yet another bump in the road.

As he is currently suspended, the 34-year-old would have had some time to reflect upon the current situation and think about his options. Unfortunately, it seems likely that the poor man’s Roy Keane will try and continue on until his legs no longer work.

But that is not what should happen. At his age he has probably made more money than he knows what to do with, and given his outspoken nature on social media and his book deal it does not appear as if he is short on options outside of football.

He had one last hurrah with Burnley by helping them achieve promotion, and now he needs to get out before things get even worse for him. The choice is still his of course, but if he was smart then he would look at his age, what he has accomplished and realise it is time to write the final chapter on this stage of his life.

Carrying on will benefit nobody, and at this point you have to wonder who would take him on.
