Despite a good early start to the season, Hull City are already dropping like a stone under Mike Phelan.

The appointment of Mike Phelan at Hull City was met with uncertainty from a number of different people.

Some felt he did not have the experience necessary to lead the side to Premier League safety, meanwhile others believed a fresh change of pace was needed.

Currently the Tigers are struggling down in the bottom three, with some big games coming up.

Sunderland manager David Moyes

Sunderland – Away

If there was ever a prime opportunity for a return to form, this is it. Sunderland have been struggling badly so far this season and despite their return victory the pressure is still on manager David Moyes. It will be a back and forth contest, but the Black Cats just have that bit more quality throughout their side.

Prediction: Sunderland 3-1 Hull

West Brom manager Tony Pulis

West Bromwich Albion – Home

West Brom really are a mixed bag this season. From disappointing home wins to triumphing over champions Leicester, nobody quite knows what they will do next.

Fortunately their inconsistency could be a blessing in disguise for Hull, and if they start well on the offensive in this game they could catch Tony Pulis’s men off guard.

Prediction: Hull 1-0 West Brom

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez

Newcastle United – Home (League Cup)

Mike Phelan will have to decide upon his priorities for this game. On one hand it is a huge opportunity to take a big step towards Wembley, but on the other it could really detract from their ambitions in the league.

Either way Newcastle are on fire right now, and it does not seem as if Hull have the quality or confidence necessary to stop them.

Prediction: Hull 1-2 Newcastle
