Derby manager Nigel Pearson has claimed that the gulf in quality between Liverpool and Derby was too much for his side in their 3-0 loss to the Reds.
It was always going to be a tough task for the Rams to overcome Liverpool considering the way both sides have started their respective seasons. Either way, fans who were hoping for an upset were left bitterly disappointed as the Reds ran out 3-0 winners at the iPro Stadium. As reported by Derby Telegraph, Pearson commented on the difference in quality between the two teams.
“The first goal we conceded came from our mistake and the two in the second half came in quick succession too soon after the break,” he said. “The gulf between the two sides at the moment is too big for us.
“At 3-0 down after an hour it can make things really, really difficult but I think we continued to work exceptionally hard.”
It is yet another poor result in a season full of them for Derby who find themselves in 20th with just one win from their opening eight league games. Some people are blaming the players, meanwhile others are blaming Pearson for making decisions like sending 20-goal a season striker Chris Martin to Fulham.
Either way things need to change at the iPro and fast, otherwise Pearson could be staring at an early dismissal from the East Midlands side. They will be hoping a home fixture against lowly Blackburn Rovers will help to get them back on track this weekend.
