Tottenham Hotspur supporters weren’t pleased with Wojciech Szczesny’s remarks following their Champions League clash against Juventus.
In the wake of their second leg defeat against Juventus which sent them out of the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur fans also had to contend with some unsavoury comments from former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
The 27-year-old was on the books at the Emirates for eleven years between 2006 and 2017, and in that time he became one of the club’s most notable goalkeeping successes of the last few decades. Unfortunately for Spurs fans, though, a move to Italian giants Juventus did not stop him from poking fun at Arsenal’s North London rivals.
“I enjoyed it a lot,” Szczesny told The Guardian.
“There were a couple [of Tottenham] fans – very vocal – next to my bench, who went missing after the 80th minute, so yeah, I enjoyed it. Plus winning at Wembley is always special.”
While many Arsenal supporters enjoyed the Pole’s remarks, at the same time, they are probably wishing that they still had the luxury of being able to play him in goal.
Over recent weeks Petr Cech has been heavily criticised, although you could argue that the goalkeeping foundations at Arsenal have been flawed for a while now with several former keepers going on to find more success elsewhere.
Nevertheless, this is a rare week in which the Gunners have been able to get one over on their bitter rivals, with their victory over AC Milan in the Europa League coming less than 24 hours after Spurs were eliminated from European competition. With that in mind, these are the best reactions from the Tottenham faithful.
