Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan has stated that he is enjoying his football more than he ever has before.
Norwich City have been enjoying a strong start to the Championship season as they currently occupy top spot in the league table. Their early success can be attributed to many different factors, with one of the main ones being the continued quality of veteran Wes Hoolahan. The midfielder has been a consistent force at the heart of the Canaries’ first team for years now, and as reported by the Eastern Daily Press the Irishman has stated that he is enjoying his football more than ever.
The Norfolk based side secured their fifth victory in six home games at the weekend with a 3-1 triumph over Rotherham United, and as Hoolahan approaches 300 appearances for the club he just keeps improving his game with age.
“Yeah, I’m enjoying my football more than ever,” said Hoolahan.
“As you get older you appreciate it a lot more. It’s not often at the age of 34, you’re enjoying yourself playing football and I think every game now you just enjoy as much as you can.
“When I was 18, 19, thinking about being 34 and still playing at the top level, I’d have loved it.
“I’m very lucky. I’m doing as much as I can to preserve it. It’s your career. You’ve got to look after yourself. You don’t know when you’re going to retire. But being 34 you want to enjoy every moment that you can and keep it going as long as you want to.”
With just two losses in their first 12 league games it is no wonder that pundits are already tipping Norwich for promotion, and if they continue their current trajectory it will only be a matter of time before they are back in the top flight.
Having been at the club since 2008, the 34-year-old has been a fan favourite for many years now and that will likely always be the case as his legacy grows even further.
