Napoli’s Jorginho is a wanted man heading into the summer transfer window.
The never-ending stream of players being linked with a move to Anfield continues, as prime target Jorginho continues to make the headlines for all the right reasons if you’re a Liverpool fan.
The 26-year-old has spent the last four years carving out quite the reputation for himself over in Italy with Napoli, and despite flying under the radar in the grand scheme of the media, he’s managed to attract some serious attention as of late. Because of that, his recent comments to the Daily Mail have raised a few eyebrows on Merseyside, even if he was initially responding to Pep Guardiola.
“I think that I could fit (in the Premier League),” Jorginho told the Daily Mail.
“It depends on who else is around me – I need players with the same characteristics that I have.
“There are English teams with this style of play, ball on the ground, quick transitions, high pressure. If one of those teams wanted me, I could fit and the other way round. My football way is not an usual one.”
Some may see that as vague and others might not link that directly to Liverpool, but you only need to think of the context. Manchester United, who have also been linked, have had flashes of brilliance throughout the season but can’t seem to maintain any consistency with how they play.
City are an attractive team to watch but you have to question whether or not there would be any room for Jorginho, and whether the play would run straight through him like it would with the Reds.
There’s no guarantee that he’s interested in making the switch but a move to the Premier League definitely looks like it’s on the cards, and Jurgen Klopp’s men are on fire right now. The German has them playing some of the best football in Europe and it’s hard for any player to ignore that, especially considering that they’re in the Champions League quarter-finals.
While Jorginho’s priority may be trying to lead Napoli to the Serie A title for the time being, he clearly already has one eye on the future.
