Three stars who could represent Aston Villa at the World Cup

Aston Villa’s squad features a vast array of international talent.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is a just a few months away now, as fans around the globe prepare themselves for a spectacle which only comes around once every four years.

The excitement is building as several English teams prepare to send their players off to Russia and, interestingly enough, there could be quite a few representatives from the Championship this year. The second tier is stronger than it has ever been and, when it comes to Aston Villa specifically, they have got a few options for players who could book a place on the plane.

Of course, there are still plenty of others who could make the cut, but these are certainly the pick of the bunch.

Ahmed Elmohamady – Egypt

Elmohamady has been bouncing around English football for over eight years now, with spells at Sunderland and Hull City before eventually landing at Villa Park. The right-sided midfielder-cum-full-back often flies under the radar with some of his performances. But after spending over a decade as part of the Egyptian national team, with over 70 appearances to his name, a strong end to the season will certainly put him in contention for a spot in the squad.

Mile Jedinak – Australia

Barring a horrific injury which keeps him out of action, Mile Jedinak will be on the plane to Russia. The Socceroos star is the captain of the national team and, regardless of whether or not Villa manage to secure promotion back to the top flight, Jedinak will likely be the first name on the team sheet as Australia attempt to progress from a tricky group which includes Denmark, Peru and one of the favourites France.

Birkir Bjarnason – Iceland

The 29-year-old Icelandic star Birkir Bjarnason is quickly becoming a fan favourite in the Midlands, which is something he has been for years in his native country. Bjarnason has more than 60 caps for Iceland and a handful of goals, including two at Euro 2016.

Many neutral fans will be hoping to see them pull off yet another miracle in Russia, which is something that Bjarnason is not a stranger to after playing a big role in their huge win over England two years ago.
