Mile Jedinak may not be the most popular player at Villa Park, but he’s certainly dedicated to the cause.

Time flies by in the world of football, and some Aston Villa fans may be surprised to learn that August will signal the two-year anniversary of Mile Jedinak signing with the Midlands club.

The Australian international has been a featured member of the first team ever since the club’s journey down in the Championship began, and his tenure at Villa Park has received mixed responses from supporters. With that being said, nobody can deny that he’s 100% committed to the cause of helping the team gain promotion back to the Premier League.

“I’d say togetherness is the most important thing, which is something I’ve seen a lot of in this side,” Jedinak told AVFC.co.uk.

“There’s a lot of unity here, and not just among the playing squad. The fans are really buying into this team and there’s a real mentality here now that we’re one big family – from players and coaches to staff and supporters.”

Some would argue that the ‘togetherness’ of the squad is something that does not need to be relied upon so heavily, but when you look at the turn in fortunes Villa have enjoyed over the last few months, it is clear to see that it is playing a big role.

Oddly enough Jedinak is not considered to be among the top players at Villa Park, despite the fact that he is loved by many. The reason for that lies within his overall ability in terms of keeping possession of the ball and being labelled as someone who is brought on to see a result through to the final whistle, and while that may rub some people the wrong way, you only need to look at his history in the second city derby as a reason why he is so valuable to the team.

Jedinak is someone who seems to step it up in terms of work ethic in the big games, with supporters often pointing towards him as someone who needs to be in the starting line-up for big games such as the ones against Birmingham City.

While he may not be considered a vital member of the squad should Villa gain promotion, his passion and drive is certainly something that can be harnessed both on and off the pitch by Steve Bruce.
