Former Derby County manager Steve McClaren is statistically the club’s best manager in the last decade in terms of win percentage.
If you ask a good deal of Derby County fans, many will say that Steve McClaren failed at the club given the level of talent he had at his disposal. The closest they came to promotion under the Englishman was their heartbreaking play-off final loss against Queens Park Rangers, with everything going downhill from that point on. However as reported by the Derby Telegraph, the 55-year-old is statistically the most successful manager at the iPro Stadium in the last 10 years.
This news will surprise some people, however they will need to remember just how strong a start he made to his Derby tenure following his arrival in September 2013.
In total he managed to win 54% of his 95 games at the club with 51 victories, 22 draws and 22 defeats.
Darren Wassall is his closest challenger, as the 48-year-old won nine of his 18 games earlier this year following the sacking of Paul Clement.
The statistic will not come as much consolation to McClaren who has continued to see his career take somewhat of a downward spiral, with his time in charge of Newcastle United recently proving to be even more strenuous than the end of his time managing the Rams.
Whether or not he will continue to try to restore his reputation is anyone’s guess.
