Liverpool’s Marko Grujic has been enjoying his time out on loan with Cardiff City.
As Liverpool prepare for a busy summer transfer window, defender Dejan Lovren has issued a statement of encouragement for midfielder Marko Grujic.
The 22-year-old has been enjoying a strong run of form with Cardiff City, where he has been on loan, and he seems set to return to Anfield once the season is over. As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Lovren believes he can do well in the starting line-up on Merseyside.
“I’m really glad for Marko that it is going well at Cardiff and hopefully they will be in the Premier League next season,” said Lovren.
“Hopefully he will be fine for next season to play a big role here because I know the manager is thinking about him for the future.”
While it is exciting to hear that Jurgen Klopp is willing to look to his own squad in order to improve the midfield, there are still questions surrounding the way Lovren phrased it.
By hinting at Klopp’s interest it is almost as if he is giving both the fans and Grujic himself some false hope, because at the end of the day, Liverpool are almost certainly going to be in the market for a midfield general in the next few months.
Grujic has fared well in Wales but the current level he is at needs to be taken into consideration because it is the Championship, not the Premier League. Liverpool are on the verge of becoming the Champions of Europe, and Grujic needs time before being thrown in at the deep end. At the age of just 22, another season with Cardiff could do wonders for him, especially if they gain promotion.
