The tides are turning for Liverpool following last night’s result.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp looks on prior to UEFA Champions League Quarter Final Leg One match between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield on April 4, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Liverpool’s victory over Manchester City last night sent shock-waves throughout the world of football, and apparently, it also led many to believe that the Reds are going to lift their sixth European Cup in Kiev at the end of May.

Jurgen Klopp’s men tore through league leaders Manchester City with ruthless efficiency, and now, they’ll take a 3-0 lead to the Etihad knowing full well that just one away goal would all but seal their passage into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

As reported by Oddschecker, 76% of all UCL outright bets placed in the last 24 hours have been in favour of Liverpool winning the European Cup for the first time since 2005. As a result, they’re now fourth favourites to reign supreme in the competition, with just Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich being ahead of them.

While that makes sense given the first leg results of all eight teams, it’s still something that’s worth reflecting on. After all, just twelve months ago the thought of the Reds even reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League would’ve been a bit far-fetched – and now they’re on the verge of the final four.

They’re rubbing shoulders with Europe’s elite for the first time in a long time, and it seems as if their success story is only just beginning. With a handful of world-class forwards in their ranks and a defence that is steadily improving, Klopp is piecing together a team which Merseyside can be proud of once again.

Interestingly enough when it comes to the specific pairings in the final itself, the favourites are Barcelona/Real, Barcelona/Bayern, Bayern/Real and then Barcelona/Liverpool.
