Midfielder Joey Barton is back in the headlines as he reaches the end of his ban.

Joey Barton is one of the most divisive figures in professional football, but in spite of that, he’s still aiming to return to the game which put him on the map.

The former Manchester City star reportedly has a number of teams who are interested in acquiring his services, and BetVictor have made Aston Villa one of the favourites with odds of 10/1.

The 35-year-old has been sitting on the sidelines for well over a year now, and while his return will be seen as quite controversial to many, he’s still fairly capable of doing a solid job for any given Championship team. In addition to his City tenure, Barton has played for Newcastle, QPR, Marseille, Rangers and Burnley since turning professional back in 2002.

With that being said, Villa supporters have hardly reacted positively to news that they’re reportedly ‘in the running’ to make a move for the former England international.

Villa currently find themselves in the top six of the Championship, and despite their recent run, they look set to compete in the playoffs for a chance at gaining promotion back to the Premier League.

With the always polarising John Terry already residing in the first team at Villa Park, the addition of Barton could lead to some interesting fan reactions over the next few years.
