Everton manager Ronald Koeman has refused to blame his fringe players for their cup exit at the hands of Norwich last night.
It would be easy for Ronald Koeman to blast certain players following a 2-0 home loss to a Championship side, but instead he has taken a slightly different approach. As reported by Liverpool Echo, Koeman has refused to single out specific members of his Everton squad after the defeat.
“Everyone is working hard to get their chance to play,” he said. “It was the whole team performance tonight.
“There was bad defending before the second goal from four or five players, including ones who play regularly. It’s the whole team who were not clinical enough too. I’m not disappointed about my players.”
It will certainly be interesting to see if anyone impressed the Dutchman enough to warrant a place in the starting XI for league games. However the overall disappointment is evident as this was a great opportunity for the Toffees to have a long run in the competition.
The absence of Gareth Barry in the middle of the park could have something to do with the performance, as the midfielder has experienced a career rejuvenation under Koeman.
This will likely be just a small blip in what has been a fantastic start to the season for Everton, who find themselves in second place after just five league games. They will attempt to keep up their great form when they travel to take on Bournemouth this weekend.
