Everton manager Ronald Koeman has backed Middlesbrough to survive following the Toffees’ 3-1 victory over the promoted side.
Plenty of people are always quick to doubt the promoted sides following their entry into the top flight, but Middlesbrough have held their own relatively well since returning to the league. Their work ethic has captured the attention of Everton manager Ronald Koeman, and as reported by Gazette Live he had nothing but good things to say about the North East side.
“Maybe in the second half (we were in a different league),” said the Dutchman.
“But I think they played well. They showed they are difficult opponents, their start was good with good football and they had good organisation.
“I think they’ll stay in the Premier League because what I saw was very good for Middlesbrough.”
Some may see it as patronising, but it is high praise coming from a man who has guided his new side to second in the Premier League table after just five games.
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has experienced a mixed start to life in the Premier League with his side down in 13th.
Still, it is much higher than fans thought theywould be after it was reported that Karanka had walked out on the club towards the end of last season.
Boro will attempt to get back to winning ways when they face Tottenham Hotspur at the Riverside this weekend in a match that will challenge just how far they have come.
