Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he won’t be Liverpool manager in twenty years time – which isn’t exactly a surprising revelation.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made some interesting comments regarding how long he’ll maintain his position at Anfield.
The popular German boss is under contract with the Merseyside club until 2022,and was recently asked whether or not he would be interested in following Sir Alex Ferguson’s lead by remaining at the club for the next few decades.
“No way, no chance,” said Klopp, speaking to The Premier League Show (BBC Two at 10pm, 15th March).

“I respect Arsene and Sir Alex a lot for what they did for football, but the game has changed a lot. I think the first 15 years for these two guys were like a holiday compared to what they had in the last 15 years of their job.”
While some may see that as a ‘dig’ to seasoned veterans like Ferguson and Wenger, in reality, it is a mentality that makes all the sense in the world. Klopp is clearly trying to build something special with Liverpool, but it is important to note that even he recognises the current climate we find ourselves in with regards to football management.

We are not in an era where you can keep a position at one club forever, because not only has the average length of a tenure become much shorter, but the game as a whole is much more challenging. There are a thousand new aspects that managers in the present day have to deal with that were not around in Ferguson’s early days, and beyond that, there are always new challenges out there just waiting to be taken on.
Klopp mentions in the report that he does not want to be managing at 70, which will be in 20 years time, and in many ways, you cannot blame him for responding in that manner. These days managers need to take things one step at a time because even a short run of bad form can lead to a knee-jerk dismissal.
