Despite his fantastic start to the season, Jacob Murphy has kept his targets to a minimum as he tries to maintain a place in the first team squad.

As we enter the second half of September, youngster Jacob Murphy has already bagged four league goals for the Canaries following his winning brace against Wigan in midweek.

He’s quickly becoming a fan favourite and you’d expect him to have high hopes for the remainder of the season, but as reported by Eastern Daily Press all he’s interested in is keeping his place in the starting line-up.

“The manager has shown a lot of faith in me, which I’m really grateful to him for,” said Murphy. “And he challenged me again before Tuesday. He said I’m in the team, keep hold of that shirt – hopefully I’ve done enough to keep that. My game is about scoring goals and assists, and that will keep me in the team.”

The 21-year-old has been on the books at Carrow Road for over ten years, having made his professional debut in the FA Cup back in 2014.

“If you’re not having your best games and you’re still picking up three points, then that’s always a good sign,” said Murphy. “We’ve just got to keep plugging away and the performances will get better. But the boys worked their socks off and we got the three points.

“If we get the third goal, that’s the game killed off. But we’ll have games like that when we have to grind the result out, which we did.”

It’s been a confident start to the season for Norwich as they find themselves in 4th place after seven games, and they’ll be looking to build on that when they face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground this weekend.

If Murphy can keep up his current run of form, he could be one of the catalysts in helping his side bounce back up to the Premier League at the first attempt.
