Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme says the club have set the standard for the rest of the season following their second half performance against Aston Villa.
Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa engaged in a fascinating Midlands derby at the weekend with both sides sharing the points at Villa Park. There are arguments to be made about certain penalties and tensions were certainly high, but at the end of the day both teams will have to move on from the result. As reported by the Express & Star, Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has said that Zenga’s men have set the standard for the remainder of the season following their second half performance on Saturday.
The visitors were bound to be disappointed that they did not take home the victory, especially considering how well they played after half time. The 30-year-old goalkeeper had a decent game, but admitted the side were slightly depleted following the result.
“We’ve set the standards,” Ikeme said.
“We were under pressure for parts of the first half but the second half was as dominant as we’ve been.
“I thought we played really well – as good as we’ve played. I don’t think we’ve dominated a game like that all season.
“We’re disappointed not to win the game in the end. We were comfortable at the back and had quite a few chances and on another day could have won by two or three.”
The game does not do much to ease the pressure on Walter Zenga from certain fans who feel like they are too inconsistent at the moment, however the majority of supporters can see that progress is being made.
Wolves will attempt to build on the draw when they face Brighton Hove & Albion in their next fixture.
