Following disappointment at the end of last season, Sheffield Wednesday have gone about this year the right way.
Losing at Wembley is always hard to take, especially when it is in the Championship play-off final. That was unfortunately the fate of Sheffield Wednesday back in May when they were defeated by Hull City, ending their dreams of a return to the Premier League.
But the grass is always greener on the other side, and Wednesday have picked themselves up and gone again, currently finding themselves in the top six as we enter a busy a Christmas period.
They say a loss on that kind of stage can make or break a team, and it appears as if the Owls have taken a leaf out of Middlesbrough’s books. Boro, who lost to Norwich at Wembley in 2014, went on to gain promotion next season after maintaining alot of the things that got them to the final the previous year.
One of those things was the manager. They stuck with foreign boss Aitor Karanka and just a year later, he was the man to lead them to the top flight. If we fast forward, it appears as if Wednesday are fully committed to having Carlos Carvalhal be the man at the helm as they push for a play-off spot once again.
Keeping the status quo from a successful season can be vital to achieving your aspirations the second time round, and Wednesday have the experience now. If they stay calm and composed, they should be confident of finally ending their Premier League drought.
