Max Meyer continues to make the headlines as he prepares for a busy summer transfer window.
As we approach the summer transfer window, Liverpool are continuing to be linked with every name under the sun following what has been an impressive campaign for them up to this point.
The majority of stars being mentioned are high profile youngsters, and unsurprisingly, Max Meyer is on that list. The Schalke midfielder has been linked with a move away from Germany for a while now, and it seems as if he could potentially be available on a free transfer once the season has come to an end.
While that may sound like an open invitation for a side like Liverpool to come swooping in, that probably is not going to be the case. Over the years the Reds have been able to thrive when it comes to bringing in these kinds of talented players, and one of the big reasons for that is their willingness to throw money around like it is going out of fashion.
If they are having to go after Meyer as a free agent, then that could change the situation quite drastically. While more wages can always be offered in comparison to other interested clubs, it will likely come down to what team Meyer sees as best for his future development.
When he looks at Liverpool he will see a forward-thinking club, but at the same time, he will see the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, Gini Wijnaldum and many more who will not be giving up their spot without a fight.
On the flip side, you have got Tottenham Hotspur, who are also interested, and who are considered to be one of the fastest growing clubs in Europe. There is more room for Meyer in North London given the nature of his competition, and given their respective run-ins, Spurs are probably more likely to finish above Liverpool in the race for the top four.
With other top German clubs sniffing around too, Liverpool face an uphill battle if they want to secure his services.
