Aston Villa reignited their automatic promotion hopes last night with a hard-fought victory over Cardiff City.

Steve Bruce’s side had to wait until the 85th minute before Jack Grealish was able to give them the lead, in a game which signified that the Bluebirds may be losing momentum in the wake of their loss to runaway leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Speaking of whom, Wolves fans were been keeping a close eye on proceedings at Villa Park in order to see how their fellow promotion rivals fared against one another. While they may not be the biggest fans of Aston Villa following their battles this season, the actions of Neil Warnock didn’t exactly help their opinion of the Welsh side either.

Given the nature of the table, a defeat for Cardiff is always going to be seen as a positive for the Molineux faithful, and for the most part, they were happy to see Grealish pop up with such an important goal.

Villa are no longer a threat to them in the race for promotion, which is bizarre given that they inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Nuno Espirito Santo’s team just a few weeks ago. The pieces seem to be falling into place perfectly for Wolves, and now, it’s surely just a matter of time until the celebrations can begin.
