Leeds United manager Garry Monk has gone a long way to turning things round since arriving at Elland Road, with the club finding themselves in the top half after the first 11 games of the season.
As reported by Yorkshire Evening Post, Monk has commented on the growing relationship between the team and the fans following his side’s 2-1 derby victory over high-flying Barnsley.
“You’re seeing that relationship really growing now,” Monk said. “I talked after the Birmingham game about seeing apprehension in the players and apprehension in the crowd. That was no fault of anyone’s. It was just the way it was.
“Of course performances help with that but in that last 10 minutes, when we had to defend, there was nothing negative from the crowd. Extra energy comes out of you when you feel the backing of almost 30,000 people.”

Leeds fans like at any team can get on their side’s back when things are not going their way, but under Monk the entire atmosphere of the club is gradually starting to improve despite antics behind the scenes still casting a shadow over them.
Improving the positive mental attitude of a football club has proven to have a domino effect in the past, and a fourth successive home victory will only serve to encourage fans to continue getting behind their team and urging them towards a promotion push.
With the squad really starting to gel, who knows where this string of momentum could take the club. They will aim to keep up their solid form after the international break when they face Derby County at the iPro Stadium.
