Fulham chairman Shahid Khan has laid out the guidelines as to how the club will be conducting their transfer business for the foreseeable future.
It has been an inconsistent start to the season for Fulham, with just three wins in their first 11 league games leaving them down in 14th. They began their campaign brightly but have fallen away in recent weeks, with fans growing increasingly frustrated about their ability to challenge for promotion. As reported by Get West London, Fulham chairman Shahid Khan has recently spoken about how the club is going to move forward with their transfer dealings in order to ensure success.
Manager Slavisa Jokanovic is going to have to adapt to the fact that under this new model, he will not be able to select the players he buys or loans on his own. Stats analyst Craig Kline is also heavily involved in the process, with the whole situation mirroring the scenarios in the film Moneyball.
“Why wouldn’t you want to have a player the manager isn’t going to play?” offered Khan. “It would be crazy, wouldn’t it?
“But the approach we’ve had, you want to qualify a player on a number of different metrics, but the final judgement is the manager’s. We have more of a collaborative process.
“Impetuosity, which has happened at football clubs including Fulham, we don’t want that.
“We want a more thought-out process, where the manager has the final say but other factors come into the process.”
It is certainly an interesting approach, but whether or not it will manifest into results on the pitch is a different matter entirely. Fulham’s next challenge comes against promoted side Barnsley after the international break.
