Wolverhampton Wanderers need to be wary of what rich owners can end up doing to a football club if they are to succeed under this new regime.
The money in football these days is absolutely staggering. Both in terms of purchasing players and the actual funds available to clubs behind the scenes, some would go as far as saying things have gotten out of control over the last few years.
Regardless, the surge in foreign owners and such will continue and there are some big examples that sides like Wolverhampton Wanderers need to take note of.
Having recently been taken over by Chinese owners, this statement can also be said of the remaining Midlands clubs. However, in terms of the changes that have taken place so far Wolves’ seem to have been the most extravagant.
They have already thrown around quite a bit of cash in the last few months, in addition to hiring and firing Walter Zenga. That small piece of information right there should immediately indicate that they need to take a step back and think about what is happening.

The prime examples of this taking place in the past are endless, but for arguments sake let’s narrow it down to Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers.
The short term gains of the latter especially were good, however in the present day things are once again looking rocky. For Blackburn, the protests and general lack of care from Venky’s speaks for itself. Every club should strive to steer away from that business model, because the evidence is there for everyone to see regarding it’s lack of success.
Then there’s QPR, who once again find themselves down in the Championship back where they started. Throwing money around is not a guarantee of consistent triumph, as evidenced by their relegations from the Premier League.
The instinctive hiring and eventual sacking of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has also brought its fair share of issues, and apart from a few brief moments of adulation the question has to be asked of what the next step is for the London based club. Just the other day the Dutchman hinted at the club’s transfer policies providing frustration.
Wolves need to be their own club and their own example to the rest of the footballing landscape. Be brave, but not stupid.
