Wolves’ Matt Doherty continues to impress for the Championship leaders.

Wolverhampton Wanderers returned to winning ways on Tuesday night courtesy of an impressive 3-0 victory over Reading, with defender Matt Doherty shining through as the star of the evening at Molineux.
His two goals played a huge role in the win, as the 26-year-old Irishman continues to prove why he is one of the most underrated stars in the Championship.
Doherty first arrived at the club back in 2010 as a teenager full of potential, and since then he has seemingly flown under the radar despite being one of Wolves’ ever-present first team members throughout what has been a dramatic few years for the club.

In the current climate, it is easy to get caught up in the excitement of what is going on in the Black Country, with a number of foreign superstars coming over and making a strong impression. What Nuno Espirito Santo seems to understand, though, is that the resilience and determination of Matt Doherty shines through above all of that.
Doherty has been on the books through two relegations from the Premier League to League One, a promotion back to the Championship and some turbulent years which included a managerial merry-go-round and an ownership change.

It has always been clear that his hunger was going to take him far, but that pales in comparison to what he does for the team as a whole. He has a natural ability to read the game that few in the division have, and he is able to take the ball forward while also not exposing himself to mistakes at the back.
As Wolves look ahead to a potential Premier League berth, Doherty has earned the right to try and prove himself on domestic football’s biggest stage. If he falters then he falters, but he is a strong enough member of the squad that he should warrant the position of being a leading man for the club.
