Derby County midfielder Will Hughes is set to miss the club’s crunch game with Sheffield Wednesday next weekend.
Derby County’s heartbreaking loss to Huddersfield Town at the weekend signified that there is still a long way to go for Steve McClaren before he can really turn them back into a side capable of fighting for promotion. If the way in which they lost was not bad enough, there was also bad news in terms of midfielder Will Hughes. As reported by the Derby Telegraph, Hughes will be suspended for the home game against Sheffield Wednesday after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign against the Terriers.
The youngster received the booking for a foul in the 65th minute on Huddersfield star Nahki Wells, and given their start to the season another suspension is the worst possible news for McClaren right now.
Bradley Johnson is also one yellow card away from a ban, while Craig Bryson should be back in contention for the game against last season’s play-off final losers.
While relegation seems unlikely for the Rams, there are better teams that have managed to slip down into the third tier in the last few years and it seems as it nobody is immune to the toughness of the Championship.
