Derby County striker Chris Martin has spoken about his troubles in front of goal during his current loan spell at Fulham.
Chris Martin has been a 20-goal a season striker for the last few years at Derby County, which made their decision to send him on loan to Fulham all the more baffling. Some fans thought it was a smart move as they did not want their entire game to be centered around him, but many disagreed. Since going to Fulham, however, he has struggled to find the back of the net. As reported by Derby Telegraph, Martin has spoken out about his recent goal drought.
Martin has played 20 domestic games since last scoring, with his most recent league strike being in Derby’s 4-0 victory over Hull back in April. His only goal this season came in Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Malta, and he will be hoping he can replicate that feat in their games against Slovakia and Lithuania.
“Of course, as a striker, it’s always a bit of a concern – but I don’t really think too much about that,” Martin said about his goal drought.
“This can probably be a little bit of a release for me, coming away on international duty from the pressures of club level and trying to perform here.
“It’s a different set-up, a different vibe and a different feeling, so, hopefully, I can use this as a bit of a catalyst for me and I can take it back to club level.”
The national side are showing a great deal of faith in Martin, with some believing that he has not earned the right to be called up once again.
Whatever the case, the 27-year-old will be hoping he can gain some confidence before Fulham’s next league clash against Barnsley at Oakwell.
