Crystal Palace’s injury woes continue to plague their campaign.
As reported by the Guardian, Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is set to see a specialist today after suffering a significant knee injury during the Eagles’ entertaining 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at the weekend.
Zaha, 25, picked up the injury in the first half but continued to fight on through the game despite the knock. Looking back on it, that may be seen as a mistake if he does wind up having to spend an extended amount of time on the sideline.
The former Manchester United player has been a featured member of the Palace first-team for quite some time now and, while the extent of his time away has not been confirmed, Zaha is expected to be out for at least a month.
This is the latest evidence of some kind of curse being placed on Selhurst Park, with several other high profile names also being injured.
Martin Kelly and Julian Speroni will also be sent for scans due to persistent niggles, with six other first-team players also being hit by this bizarre injury crisis.
It could not have come at a worse time for manager Roy Hodgson as Palace are preparing for the toughest stretch of their season to date. With just a few months remaining the relegation battle is tighter than ever and while Palace are in a better position than most right now, we have all seen how much injuries can affect things towards the back-end of the season.
The likes of Christian Benteke and Andros Townsend will be called upon to take the club forward in these difficult times, although neither has been particularly prolific as of late.
Palace will be diving straight back in at the deep end this Saturday when they travel to Goodison Park to face Everton, before hosting back-to-back top four contenders in the form of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
