Bruce has finally gained Aston Villa fans’ trust

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce seems to have finally earned the trust of the Villa fans after a difficult start to life as the boss.

Following their Second City derby triumph at the weekend, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce finally seems to have earned the trust of the Villa faithful.

It has taken a while for us to get to this point when you consider that Bruce initially signed on the dotted line back in October 2016, but for the Villans, you could somewhat understand their scrutiny.

After all, they were being given a manager who had previously been in charge of their bitter rivals Birmingham City, and it was happening just a few years after they got over the whole Alex McLeish ordeal. Plus, Bruce has a reputation for taking clubs up only to struggle in the top flight once they got there.

In the present day, when it is so difficult to have an extended run in charge of a well-known club, Bruce needed to show some kind of progression in order to prove this was going to be a good fit.

Unfortunately, a 13th-place finish in the 2016/17 campaign did not get the job done.

Thankfully, in the last 12 months, Bruce has been able to calm things down around Villa Park while managing to get back to the basics. This is a team made up of so much quality that just could not quite translate it into results, but now, he has got them looking like a team for the first time in a long time.

Perhaps an even bigger achievement than that has been his ability to harness the talents of Jack Grealish, who has arguably been one of the league’s best players since August.

But it still took until this past weekend for the Holte End to fully invest their trust in Bruce who, after a difficult week from a personal standpoint, was seen to be overcome with emotions when Villa secured the victory against their bitter rivals.

There is no telling where this journey will take the club next, but considering where they were a few years back, getting the confidence reinstalled into this club was the most important thing Bruce could have possibly done. Now, as the days go by, more and more fans are converting to the idea that maybe this guy is not so bad after all.
