Birmingham City need to be careful that their season does not go off the tracks within the next few weeks.
For much of the season, a lot of the talk surrounding Birmingham City has been the expert management skills of Gary Rowett. While he still has a long way to go to be considered a great at St Andrew’s, the former Burton boss has gotten off to a pretty solid start since arriving at the club.
Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worst in the last few weeks. Back-to-back losses against Barnsley and Newcastle United have seen the Blues fail to score in both encounters, in addition to conceding seven goals.
Now while that is not necessarily a cause for great panic or concern, this is the Championship. Momentum is everything and with there being so any games in such a short period of time, it could be the catalyst for a bad run of form for Rowett’s men.
They are now preparing for back to back home games against Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion, with the latter especially set to pose a huge threat in front of what is usually a fickle crowd in Birmingham.
When you consider they are following that up with a trip to in-form Derby County, it becomes all the more daunting.
Birmingham’s credentials will be thoroughly tested as we enter the new year and after dropping out of the top six this past weekend, they will do well to claw their way back in.
