After a strong start to the season, not many people have kept track of just how well Barnsley are doing.

At the start of the Championship campaign one of the hottest topics on everyone’s mind was the rise of Barnsley. After riding their momentum through from League One, the Tykes made a lightning start to the season and looked set to be the surprise package of the year. After dropping off for a month or two, the Yorkshire based side once again look set to make a charge for the play-offs.

With a number of talented youngsters mixed in with some experience in their squad, Barnsley certainly have the resources necessary to make a run deep into May. With midfielder Conor Hourihane leading the way, the club have a legitimate star that can help them rise up the ranks whilst also having enough quality throughout the rest of the pitch to cope.

They appear to be learning from their mistakes, too. Following a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Nottingham Forest back in November, the club went on a run of just one loss in seven games which included getting their win back against Forest in a 1-0 victory at the City Ground.

The resiliency of this team cannot be understated, and they’re scoring plenty of goals to make up for any lapses at the back. Two clean sheets in their last three games certainly shows progress, and their ability to keep going and outscore their opponents is admirable.

Momentum mixed in with alot of heart can take you a long way in this league and Barnsley’s sense of unknown has seen them shoot up the table in the Championship, with no signs of slowing down.
