Aston Villa are back in with a chance of securing automatic promotion.
The fate of Aston Villa’s season remains uncertain after Derby County’s shock comeback against Cardiff City last night. The result leaves Villa four points off the second automatic promotion spot and, with just two games remaining, it is anyone’s guess as to who will join Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
While Fulham have a much more realistic chance of sneaking into second spot ahead of the Bluebirds, Villa fans will know full well that their side are more than capable of pulling a surprise result out of the bag.
It seemed as if Steve Bruce’s side were destined for a spot in the play-offs a few weeks back, but now they have been given a glimmer of hope that they can avoid the slog of the knockout tournament.
Their fans will likely be thankful either way that they do not have to contend with battling to even confirm their place in the top six, which looked possible at various points throughout the campaign.
Ironically enough, Villa’s attention will now turn towards a game against Derby themselves before they travel to London to face one of the league’s most in-form teams – Millwall.
