Yo-yo clubs have been a staple of English football for years now, and Norwich City could be the next team on the list.

Norwich City fans have been through a lot over the last few years, with plenty of highs and even more lows to speak of. Their mixed fate has led to people believing they will become the next yo-yo side, following in the footsteps of the likes of Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City before them.

In the last three years they have experienced either a promotion or a relegation, and given their start to the 2016/17 campaign they could be on their way to more success.

Despite their tendencies to swap divisions, they tend to stick with their managers longer than most other sides in their position. Current manager Alex Neil was the man who guided them to the Premier League through the play-offs in 2015, and now he finds himself back down in the second tier.

Their upcoming youngsters coupled with experienced stars should be enough to get them promoted, but Neil’s inexperience at the top level could prove to be detrimental once again if they were to keep him on.

Once a team gets into the pattern of bouncing between leagues it can be difficult to stop the trend, and the pressure grows with each season depending on where they end up.

Now that they are in the Championship, the expectation is higher due to their past successes in the league. However, if they secure promotion once again, it will almost be anticipated from fans and pundits that they’ll drop back down the following year.

If they can reach the top flight they will need to do things differently if they’re going to survive. Keeping the faith with Alex Neil will be a risk, but now that he has one season under his belt his inexperience hopefully wouldn’t be too much of a factor. They need the board to get behind them and bring in talent that will see them succeed as opposed to just trying to survive.
