Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi has revealed what a win over league favourites Newcastle would mean to the club.

As reported by Birmingham Mail, Jordan Amavi has spoken about what a victory over Newcastle United would mean for Aston Villa’s campaign.
Following an indifferent start to the 2016/17 season, Villa fans are in need of a big result as they find themselves with just eight points from their opening eight games. Many people were expecting the clash with Newcastle to be a top of the table match, however that is not the case with both sides realising how difficult the Championship can be.

“We are going to train hard and try and get the three points next weekend,” said Amavi.
“It’s important for us and especially for the supporters. We know if we win this game it’s a good platform for the future.”
Their 0-0 draw against Ipswich at the weekend at least served to give Villa a clean sheet, which is something to build on as they prepare to face a side who put six past QPR at Loftus Road.

“We kept a clean sheet which is a good thing,” added Amavi.
“Now we just need a bit of luck, to score some goals and try to win some games.”
Amavi is one of many players at Villa Park who will be looking to use the Championship as a way to get back to their top form. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of them have underestimated just how difficult the division is to get out of. With so many top teams on display, Villa will have to turn their season around pretty quickly if they want to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.
