Dimitar Berbatov will forever go down in history as one of the most underrated strikers in Premier League history, especially for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Bulgarian graced English football with his presence whether it was for Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham or Manchester United, however it was with the first in particular that he made his name. Despite five years playing for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany he was never really seen as a top player in the landscape of the world’s greatest, but all that was about to change.

Berbatov’s skill, class and poise on the pitch was something the Premier League had not seen in years – perhaps since Eric Cantona. Everything he did looked easy and as his time at White Hart Lane went on, he began to carve a reputation for himself as someone who could pop up with an exquisite piece of magic at any given moment.

The Bulgarian truly did win the hearts of the Spurs faithful. He helped them on their way towards a League Cup triumph, even scoring in the final, and was consistent in terms of what he provided for them on the pitch. His Tottenham Player of the Year Award is living proof of that.

While that did not always translate into goals, what it did do was allow other players to come into the game as well as slowing the tempo down to suit the way Tottenham played.

Some fans will suggest he should have stayed at the club instead of going to Manchester United, but he deserved to make that step up and what he did for the North London side will never be forgotten.
