A look at Wolves’ biggest remaining games in promotion race

Wolverhampton Wanderers still have work to do in order to secure promotion.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were able to bounce back from defeat to Aston Villa in a big way on Tuesday night, as they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Reading.

While it was a thoroughly impressive performance, there is still a long way to go and, with all due respect to the Royals, anything but a convincing win over them would have been seen as a problem by the Molineux faithful.

So as they move forward into their final nine games of the campaign, it is important to look at the bigger picture. While they do have a 10-point advantage over third placed Villa, we have seen in years gone by that a poor run of results can completely undo a team’s promotion surge.

Middlesbrough (A) – March 30^th

The Easter stretch is going to be a nightmare for every Championship side to deal with, and that fact rings especially true for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

A trip to the Riverside will kick off a run of five games in just over two weeks and, based on current form, they will be happy to get Boro out of the way early. Tony Pulis’s side have forced their way into the top six with just one loss in their last seven, and their ability to bully sides off the ball will put Wolves’ resilience to the test.

Cardiff (A) – April 6^th

There does not need to be too much of an explanation here, as this clash could wind up determining who wins the Championship this season. Wolves know that their fate is in their own hands as they possess a three-point lead over the Bluebirds and, player for player, they certainly have the better squad.

Unfortunately for them, Neil Warnock has more than enough experience in this department, and the momentum his side are carrying at the moment will mean they can pose Wolves all kinds of problems.

Birmingham (H) – April 15^th

Regardless of the fact that these two rivals are located at the opposite end of the table, Wolverhampton Wanderers against Birmingham City is always a big game. Their rivalry can only compare to their respective feuds with West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa and this time it could prove to be the game that sends Wolves into the Premier League.

The club will only have three matches remaining after this one, and the atmosphere at Molineux is likely to be electric.
