Wolverhampton Wanderers’ promotion surge is in their own hands.

With 15 games to go, the celebrations can nearly begin in the Black Country, as Wolverhampton Wanderers are just a handful of games away from confirming their long-awaited return to the Premier League.
The Molineux faithful are trying to keep themselves grounded, but it must be difficult when you consider their side are a whopping 13 points clear of Derby County in third. With such a substantial lead, Wolves already going to be looking ahead to when they can pop open the champagne and, as bizarre as it sounds with us only being in February, the finish line could well be in sight.

Since the rebranding of the second tier back in the 2004/05 season, teams have picked up a variety of different points totals on their way to gaining promotion back to the top flight. We have had West Brom go up as champions with just 81 points in 2008, meanwhile just last year Brighton & Hove Albion registered a stunning 93 points and only managed to go up in second place.
No matter the season there is always been an aim for a team riding high who want to know when they can start thinking about the parade and, for Wolves, we have worked out that they may be on the cusp of glory in just a few weeks.

The average amount of points required to gain promotion in second place is 87, which is a number that makes sense when you see how competitive the league has been this season. If that is the case, then Wolves would only need five wins and one draw from their last 16 games in order to reach that total.
Of course, there are plenty of twists and turns that could still occur, but when you consider the kind of form that this team has been in for the better part of the entire season, it seems entirely possible that they could clinch a return to the big time before we even get out of April.
