Middlesbrough are still in the hunt for the playoffs, but they face a tough run-in over the next few weeks.

Middlesbrough are still locked in the hunt for promotion at the top of the Championship table, and over the next three games, they’ll have a chance to really put pressure on the top six.

While their fixtures may seem favourable from the outset, further review tells us that Boro could be in for a tough time over the next few weeks. Under Tony Pulis, they’ve been able to steady the ship as they try and make their way back up to the Premier League, but in the current climate of the second tier, it’s going to be even more difficult than ever before.

Cardiff (A) – Reverse Fixture: 0-1 loss

Cardiff City have been one of the front-runners for promotion throughout the course of the season, and as of this moment, they show no signs of slowing down. They’ve been in this kind of position before and now that Derby County have slipped up, the Bluebirds will see this as a perfect opportunity to make up some ground on the top two. Boro struggled against the Welsh side earlier in the season, and we can see the same thing happening this time around.

Hull (H) – Reverse Fixture: 3-1 win

Hull find themselves in a serious predicament down the bottom of the Championship table, as the former Premier League regulars are now on the verge of slipping down into the third tier. When you look at the gulf in quality between the two sides as well as the fact Boro will be at home, Tony Pulis will be looking towards this game as one that should most certainly see his side come away with all three points.

Sunderland (A) – Reverse Fixture: 1-0 win

It’s never easy to predict what’s going to happen when two rivals square off, and that continues to be the case with Sunderland and Middlesbrough. Pulis’ men hold both a league and cup victory over their rivals so far this season, but the Stadium of Light will be rocking for this one as Chris Coleman attempts to turn their fortunes around. If The Black Cats come firing out of the blocks, a point wouldn’t be the worst result.
