The Sheffield United boss is sure to have interest soon.

Chris Wilder manager of Sheffield United looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Sheffield United and Barnsley at Bramall Lane on August 19, 2017 in Sheffield, England.

Two promotions at two clubs in two years, now in charge of the Championship’s number two side, interest is sure to be forthcoming in Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.

If reports are to be believed, Wilder was looked at by Crystal Palace and Sunderland at the start of the summer, but remained – for the better, it turns out – at Bramall Lane.

Another ascent is quite rightly being discussed as a serious possibility, and one suspects the boyhood Unitedite’s primary aim will be to see out that particular pursuit.

But as we enter the time of year in which the fingers of Premier League owners start to hover over panic buttons, it is perhaps only logical for United to expect a phonecall or two.

Or is it, in fact? Do English top flight sides bother to look down any more? History shows it’s a decreasing – almost extinct – trend.

Although Gus Poyet, Steve McClaren, Paul Clement have all managed in the Premier League immediately after Championship spells, all were free agents at the time of their appointments.

Chris Hughton, Manager of Brighton and Hove Albion looks on prior to the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United at Amex Stadium on September 24, 2017 in...

You have to go back more than five years to find the last to be physically prised away – Chris Hughton, from Birmingham to Norwich – and he is one of only four to do so throughout the last decade – Gary Megson (Leicester to Bolton), Paul Ince (MK Dons to Blackburn) and Roberto Martinez (Swansea to Wigan).

Wilder to the Premier League? Only if Sheffield United go with him.
