Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly lodged a bid for Alassane Plea.

If rumours are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur want Alassane Plea.

According to RMC Sport, Tottenham have lodged around £23 million for the Nice striker, who bagged 16 goals in Ligue 1 last season.

But if history is anything to go by then the 25-year-old could struggle if he winds up in North London.

Up until now, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has signed five players from Ligue 1 but none them have exactly ripped up the Premier League.

Benjamin Stambouli was the first player to join the Lilywhites from the French top flight under Pochettino, but only managed 12 Premier League outings and signed for Paris Saint-Germain a year later.

Since then, Clinton N’Jie, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, Serge Aurier and Lucas Moura have joined up with Pochettino but neither of them

Lucas, a £25 million addition in January, will be judged on how he fares during his first full season, and Aurier could improve after adapting to life in the Premier League last term, but N’Jie and N’Koudou won’t justify the money spent on bringing them in.

One could argue that Spurs are bound to get it right with a Ligue 1 addition eventually, but it doesn’t exactly bode well for Plea that so many players with whom he once shared a division haven’t been anywhere the success story that Pochettino was obviously hoping for.
