Shaka Hislop told ESPN that the ‘outstanding’ Tomas Soucek deserves to be named Hammer of the Year and not Jesse Lingard.

The former West Ham keeper believes whilst Lingard has also been ‘outstanding’, ultimately, he has only done it for ‘half a season’.

West Ham were flying high way before Lingard joined from Manchester United in January, but there’s no doubt that his addition has taken the club to another level.

From Lingard to Rice to Soucek to Antonio, it’s going to be pretty difficult deciding who wins Hammer of the Year, which is something that hasn’t been said for some while in East London.

“I think Lingard has come in January and has been outstanding,” said Hislop. “But ultimately, it’s half a season.

“Soucek has been outstanding all season long and he wins it for me.”

It wouldn’t be a surprise if it is Soucek who ends up with the award because his goals have added those extra cherries to the cake.

A big part of West Ham’s success has been their midfield and both Rice and Soucek have been at the heart of it all season.

Not only will Soucek walk away with Hammer of the Year, but he will probably go down as one of the signings of the last 18 months because he has been near-on faultless.
