Writing in his Team of the Week column, Alan Shearer has been waxing-lyrical about Gabriel Martinelli after his spellbinding performance against Liverpool.
The Brazilian was arguably Man of the Match against the Reds over the weekend, netting a goal after just one minute and causing Trent Alexander-Arnold all sorts of problems.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Martinelli has proven a handful against Alexander-Arnold, he ran him ragged last season in a 2-0 defeat, but this time, his brilliance was rewarded with a goal.
Shearer was greatly impressed by the South American who earned a place in his Team of the Week.

Shearer hails Martinelli
The Newcastle legend had nothing but good things to say about the attacker.
“Liverpool couldn’t handle his runs in behind, his quick feet or his vision. He fully deserved his goal and assist,” Shearer said.
Unplayable
When Martinelli is on song as he was on Sunday he is absolutely unplayable.
The youngster has this striking blend of pace, skill and flair that makes him a nightmare to defend against, and as Shearer says, his vision was also on show against the Reds – an aspect of his game that is constantly improving.
Martinelli is slowly but surely becoming one of the most frightening attacking forces in the Premier League, and at the age of just 21, he has so much room to improve.
Arsenal have something special on their hands here with Martinelli, and if they can keep him alongside William Sailba and Bukayo Saka, the Gunners should be a real force to be reckoned with in years to come.
When you’re earning praise from a man like Alan Shearer you’re doing something right, but if you’re earning that sort of praise after a game against Liverpool, you’re something special.
