
Aston Villa fans have reacted to Steven Gerrard sharing that Danny Ings will miss their home tie against Manchester City on Wednesday night because of an injury.
It’s two wins out of two for Gerrard at Villa so far, but there is no doubt that tonight is the toughest test of his managerial career.
Ahead of that match, Gerrard told Villa TV that Ings has suffered a ‘setback’ and he will not make the squad for the visit of the Premier League champions.
There are sections of the Villa Park fanbase that aren’t surprised by the news given the Englishman’s previous record in visiting the treatment room.
Things have been mixed for Ings since joining the Midlands club in the summer – he has played up top on his own and alongside Ollie Watkins.
Other than the Brighton game, Ings has either scored or assisted in every other home game for Villa this term.
But he only has one goal on the road and that’s where his performances haven’t been up to scratch.
There’s no doubt that a man of his quality will still be backed by the fans because you don’t lose that finishing touch overnight and that’s serious depth Gerrard has to pick from.
But with Watkins now seemingly pushing ahead of him for that number nine role, some fans have questioned the Ings transfer and whether they should have signed him.
