Kris Boyd now feels Rangers should seek a transfer for Alfredo Morelos as ‘time is up’ for the striker at Ibrox. The Gers hero adds the forward is not giving ‘anywhere near’ enough.
Morelos is out of contract at the Premiership giants this May and is now able to negotiate a free summer transfer with foreign clubs. Rangers have not extended his deal since 2019 and new terms are currently unlikely. The Colombian has also fallen down in their pecking order.

Rangers chairman Douglas Park recently admitted a new deal for Morelos is ‘unattainable’ for the Glasgow outfit, via Sky Sports. While sporting director Ross Wilson also confirmed a bid was rejected for the 26-year-old in the summer as it failed to meet the Gers’ valuation.

Fenerbahce were in talks with Rangers over a potential transfer for Morelos during the off-season, per Takvim. The 11-cap international also decided that he wished to leave Ibrox in the summer. But the Gers blocked the move by demanding €13m (£11.5m) to agree to sell.
Morelos has since become the second-choice striker at Ibrox to Antonio Colak, who joined from PAOK for £2m plus add-ons. The July arrival has netted 14 goals in 24 games, starting 21, across all competitions this term. While Morelos has struck five in 24, starting just nine.

Boyd urges Rangers to secure a transfer away for Morelos, whose ‘time is up’
Boyd also notes that Morelos has only now re-entered the line-up at Rangers after Colak sustained a calf strain. But the Gers hero does not feel Morelos has delivered enough for Michael Beale to keep him at the club. So, Park and Wilson should try to secure a transfer.
“There’s no doubt that, for me, his time’s up at Rangers,” Boyd told Sky Sports News (4/1, 10:37). “You know, Morelos, he’s not the same player as what he was for whatever reason.
“He might have his eyes on a move elsewhere but it seems to be the case that every single transfer window that it’s not materialised. And you look at it right now, the way Michael Beale wants to play, Morelos is nowhere near fit enough to trigger that press, as such.”

Boyd continued: “Morelos has occupied back fours – not only in Scotland but in Europe.
“And I’ve said it before, he’s a fantastic footballer when he’s on it. He’s a handful, he can score goals. But, at this moment in time, you just feel as if his time is up. I don’t think he’s bringing anywhere near what he should be bringing to a Rangers team.”
Rangers signed Morelos in a £1m transfer from HJK Helsinki in 2017 but his Ibrox form has often attracted interest. Now, though, his issues under Giovanni van Bronckhorst earlier in the season and since Beale returned to Glasgow to take charge could make a sale difficult.
