Harry Kane has claimed that Antonio Conte taking Tottenham back to challenging at the top is going to take ‘time and understanding’, as he told Sky Sports.

The Tottenham striker added that Conte has spoken to the club and chairman, Daniel Levy, in order to establish where the club is heading.

From being in a Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino to then competing in the European Conference League.

It’s pretty clear that a player of Kane’s quality and Conte’s managerial levels should be competing at a higher level than they already are at Spurs.

In order for that to happen, Kane made it clear that patience will be needed, as he added that he can’t ‘speak highly’ enough of the man in Tottenham’s dugout now.

“We went two or three years challenging for titles and trophies,” said Kane. “Then, we dropped off the last couple of years.

“Now, with Antonio, we are building and he is building a culture. And a way that he wants us to be. To put us back in that place.

“It’s not a quick fix that can happen overnight. It takes time and understanding.

“He’s mentioned, his talks with the club and the chairman to see what direction we need to go as a club. From my point of view, we can’t speak highly of him.”

It was well-documented that Kane wanted to head for the Tottenham exit door last summer and many will question if he will head down that same path again.

There is a serial winner and trophy-laden coach now at Hotspur Way, but Jose Mourinho also fell into that bracket and look how that worked out.

The perfect summer for Spurs, regardless of whether they get fourth or not, is for Conte to be backed in the summer, the Italian to extend his contract and then Kane to also sign on the dotted line.

But, given how things work can pan out at Spurs, it could easily go the other way whereby both men aren’t at the club next season, so this is surely a warning to Levy that he has to act quickly and showcase the club’s ambitions.
