Speaking on RedMen TV, Neil Jones has been discussing the recent reports that have stated that Jurgen Klopp is personally leading the Reds’ pursuit of Jude Bellingham.
This story originates from David Ornstein who told The Athletic’s YouTube channel a few days ago that Klopp was leading the charge with this transfer.
Now, Jones has dug into exactly why Klopp is leading this charge.
It isn’t necessarily that Klopp is the person within the club who is pushing the hardest for this signing. It’s more that Liverpool believe that Klopp being personally involved would give them the best chance of convincing Bellingham that Anfield is the best place for him.

Klopp being used to convince Bellingham
Jones shared what he knows about this transfer pursuit.
“I don’t know about that. I wouldn’t say it’s like ‘why does the manager want him?’ Everyone wants him. The pursuit element is more, how can Liverpool persuade Jude Bellingham to come to Liverpool? What’s their biggest asset? Aside from Trent and Henderson chaperoning him for a month. Klopp is the joker in the pack that could really make that connection,” Jones said.
“I wouldn’t put it as ‘Klopp wants Bellingham, so Liverpool are going all in.’ But if Liverpool want to get Bellingham they need to harness the power of their manager and his pull.”
Tempting
Liverpool are being very smart here.
Think about it, if you’re a young footballer and you have one of the very best managers in history personally telling you that he wants you, that is bound to be tempting.
Bellingham knows that he needs to get his next move right, and the fact that Klopp is personally pushing to sign him must be reassuring if he is considering Liverpool.
While PSG and Real Madrid are also keen, speaking to Luis Campos or Florentino Perez won’t be as alluring as Klopp’s pitch. After all, they don’t pick the team on a weekly basis, whereas Klopp can make a plan for Bellingham and immediately implement it.
If Liverpool are to win this race, Klopp will have played his part.
