According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are now advancing their interest in Matheus Nunes after he joined Wolves in the summer.

The Portuguese midfielder was actually strongly linked with Liverpool before he headed to Molineux, but the Reds didn’t make their move for the ex-Sporting star.

However, after watching their midfield absolutely crumble this season, the Reds are back in for Nunes, and one has to believe that this move is being pushed largely by the scouting team at Anfield.

Indeed, according to Dean Jones on The Done Deal Show over the summer, Liverpool’s recruitment team are huge on this player, with the journalist claiming that the scouts at Anfield believe his profile is perfect for the Reds.

Liverpool scouts love Nunes

Jones spoke about Nunes in the summer and how much the Liverpool scouting team love him.

“Matheus Nunes at Sporting is one that we should look out for. It’s a market that people are loving at the moment from Portugal to the Premier League. I know that Liverpool have scouting reports on this guy and they think his profile is perfect if they are going to add,” Jones said.

Should’ve listened sooner

The annoying thing about this is that these comments were made months ago. If Liverpool’s recruitment team had just listened to their scouts earlier, they may not have been in this mess.

Let’s face it, Liverpool’s midfield has been all over the place this season, and they’ve needed new blood in the middle of the park for a while.

Nunes may have been just what the doctor ordered, but for some reason, Liverpool didn’t make their move when they were told by their scouts that he’d be perfect.

Luckily, it sounds as though the Merseyside club may soon right this wrong, but the damage has already been done this season.
