Speaking to Redmen TV, Neil Jones has been speaking about Michael Edwards’ next steps after leaving Liverpool.
The Reds’ former Sporting Director has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea over the past few weeks, but according to Jones, neither of those moves appear to be on the cards.
Indeed, the journalist claims that he’s heard from a few different sources that Edwards’ next job may actually be outside of football or at least in a different capacity within the game.

Edwards’ new career path
Jones shared what he’s heard about Edwards.
“A few people have told me that they suspect that his next role will be outside of football or certainly outside of the Sporting Director role within football, so we’ll wait and see, but I can see the appeal for a club like Manchester United who are missing that structure and organisation at a boardroom and recruitment level. I can see what’s in it for them, but I don’t know what’s in it for Michael Edwards,” Jones said.
Where does he go next?
If Edwards is going to be headed away from the footballing sphere, the question is, where does he go next?
Well, to answer this question you have to think about Edwards’ skillset. His background has always been in analytics, and with statistics and data taking over almost every aspect of every sport at the moment, Edwards could easily switch to another area.
US sports are huge on their numbers, so perhaps a stint in the NFL, NBA or even MLB is on the cards for Edwards – maybe he’d even like to stay in the FSG sphere and go over to work with the Boston Red Sox.
Edwards will certainly be a wanted man.
