Newcastle United are closing in on Rodrigo Vilca, Deportivo Municipal president Jose Cordova has said on Las Voces Del Futbol.
Newcastle’s scouts have identified Vilca as a potential addition to their squad, after he has impressed in Peru.
Although Vilca remains completely untested in British football, his skill in possession has caught the attention of Newcastle’s scouts.
And Cordova has now confirmed that a transfer to St. James’ Park is set to go through without any hitches.
“He is a very important player for us, but he will play his last game this Wednesday,” Cordova said.
“There is already a formal proposal by Newcastle and he will travel to England on 1 October.”
It is thought that Newcastle are only paying £250,000 to sign the attacking midfielder (Daily Mail), so it is a transfer which carries relatively low risk.

If Vilca can now go on and prove himself at Newcastle, he could yet turn out to be a real bargain.
The 21-year-old is likely to spend this season in the Magpies’ development side, as he acclimatises to playing in English football.
But if he can impress, then Vilca’s creativity and flair would surely be welcomed in Newcastle’s first-team set-up in the future.
