At the age of 28, Andersson is finally playing in a top European league for the very first time. And it is fair to say he has made the step up far more successfully than everyone might have expected.
With 12 goals in 32 Bundesliga matches, the old-school targetman has been a revelation in the German capital, ensuring that newly-promoted Union Berlin will have a second season in the first division.
No striker has scored more than his seven headers this season either, with Andersson’s formidable aerial strength attracting the interest of Brighton (Expressen) and Celtic, according to Fotboll Skanalan.
“Sebastian is a monster, his game is incredible,” Promel says of a man who has been the star performer in a Union side who were expected to sink like a stone in their debut Bundesliga campaign.
According to Berliner Zeitung, Andersson has a £3.5 million release clause in his contract, with Union fully aware that they may be powerless to prevent their talismanic top scorer heading for the exit if the chance to play Premier League or European football arrives.
“If a player scored twelve goals in the Bundesliga, it would be surprising if no other club were interested in him,” director Oliver Ruhnert admitted.
Andersson would certainly give Celtic something a little different in attack, a viable Plan B if the usually irrepressible Odsonne Edouard is having a rare off-day.
Brighton, meanwhile, can only dream of possessing a striker with such an impressive record, with their lack of goals consigning Graham Potter’s side to a relegation dogfight.
